Prostate Infection

Facts about Prostate Infection

Ejaculation appears to be a familiar subject to every man who has crossed the life-line of adolescence, but we often fail to take a pulse and ponder on the organs and glands responsible for these amazing processes. The awe-inspiring process results from the teamwork of several organs, glands, and fluids; however, the fluid through which the sperm swims is produced in the prostate gland. The semen, as we all know, is not the sperm but without it, the sperm cannot locomote to the ovum; coupled with this important function, the prostate also conveys urine to the penis. In other words, the all important function of masculine excretion and ejaculation would not be possible without the prostate; thus the gland is of great importance. You need to know the nature and the health status of your prostate infection.

How is the prostate infected?

Prostate infection

The walnut sized gland in a healthy man could inflame and inflate due to some disease causing organisms. Not every condition is termed an infection. An infection only occurs when the condition is caused by a disease causing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasite that does not normally exist within that confine. This makes it convenient to easily associate prostate infection with prostatitis. Prostatitis is generally an inflammation of the prostate, but while this condition can be caused by infection, it may also occur from several other causes. Thus, not all prostatitis are prostate infection but basically, prostatitis caused by microbial actions, especially bacteria, are infections. Examples include acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis and in some cases chronic (nonbacterial) prostatitis.

The gland may be infected either through retrograde or antegrade infection. The term retrograde infection denotes the movement of bacteria from an infection that had already occurred in the urethra into the prostate whereas antegrade infection occurs when infected urine moves into the gland; this may cause an infection through the ejaculatory ducts.

Not all bacteria cause prostatitis. Bacteria could be gram-positive or gram negative. When subjected to the Gram stain test, gram positive bacteria give positive result but gram negative bacteria do not. Several gram negative bacteria species exist, a few examples include Micrococcus luteus, Klebsiella oxytoca, Serratia marcescens, Xylella fastidiosa, plectomycetes and E. coli. These gram negative bacteria, especially E.coli, are chiefly responsible for prostate infection. Thus, traditional diagnosis and treatment usually aim at identifying these bacteria and treating them. However, using prostate food supplements that specifically target these bacteria could be a better approach to leverage.

Sexually transmitted organisms like Trichomonas, Chlamydia, Ureaplasma, and Neisseria may also cause prostatitis in younger men. Some other organisms such as fungi, genital viruses, parasites, and in rare occasion staphylococcus and streptococcus can cause prostate infection.

Prostate Infection Forms and Stages

A careful look at the acute and chronic prostate information forms will quickly inform us that prostatitis is staged. Usually, prostatitis degenerates to the chronic stage which could be more difficult to cure. Prognosis for acute prostatitis is deemed good, but for chronic prostatitis, the prognosis is at best fair. Not all prostate infection can be prevented, but certain precautions can be taken to ameliorate the condition and reduce the propensity of the disease incidence. Some of such precautions include avoiding STDs and lowering the risk of injury and trauma as well as keeping oneself hydrated.

Acute Bacterial Prostatitis

The acute bacterial prostatitis is best described by its symptoms. However, this infection is linked to infections in several parts of the urinary system. Hence its common symptoms include increased frequency of urine, urgent needs to urinate, pains during urination, pain during ejaculation, pain in the genital area, problem causing a normal stream, chills and high fever, fatigue, and malaise, to mention a few. Acute bacterial prostatitis does not just cause an enlargement of the prostate, but it also makes the prostate irregular, firm and tender. However, a vigorous digital exam on the prostate at this stage will only cause the infection to spread to the blood stream, which is not desirable. Natural treatment procedures may be more adequate to treat the condition. Prostate massage and prostate food supplements have been proven to work remarkably in treating prostate infection.

Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis

Chronic bacterial prostatitis may result from an untreated or improperly treated acute bacterial prostatitis. It is the major cause of urinary tract infection and just like acute bacterial prostatitis; it is best described by its symptoms. Some of the symptoms of this prostate infection include high frequency of urine together with pains and difficulty in urination; sexual dysfunction; pain in the testes, epididymis, penis or lower back; tender testes, epididymis, urethral discharge; and joint pains, muscle aches, and lower grade fever. As can be observed, acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis has similar symptoms, but primarily, chronic prostatitis symptoms are not as intense as the former. However, in the case of chronic prostatitis, depression and stress may set in.

Chronic (nonbacterial) prostatitis

This form of prostatitis is always thought to occur from non-infectious sources, hence its name. However, it can also be caused by infections albeit on the occasional basis. Nonetheless, it may not be quite easy to identify the infection agent since it would likely be on a low level and not likely to be observed in a culture of prostatic secretions. Moreover, it is not yet very clear whether or not this form of prostatitis is a disease of the prostate or a result of an inflammatory process.

Final Note

Prostate infection becomes much more common as men age. The incidence of BPH increases with age. The probability exceeds 85% above age 60. Although most men would probably not die of prostate infections, the pain could be excruciating. As with most other bacterial infection, urologists will often recommend antibiotics for prostate treatment but too often than not; these antibiotics do not work. Natural products have been proved to be by all means more effective than antibiotics. Prostate massage involves massaging of the prostate by a trained massage therapist. Several natural treatment techniques such as acupuncture could be involved. Prostate food supplements have also been proved to treat virtually all forms of prostate infections, but the synergic effects of prostate massage and prostate food supplements will rejuvenate your body and erase the infection.
